Happy weekend everyone! I hope you guys got the chance to sleep in this morning and be a little lazy.
I wanted to share something that’s on the horizon for me…..
A week from today I will be starting the Whole Life Challenge through my CrossFit box. What’s the Whole Life Challenge, you ask. Ahhh, what a wonderful question! The Whole Life Challenge (WLC) is an 8 week adventure in nutrition, fitness, and over all well-being.
First of all, at the beginning of the challenge all participants must do a designated workout and take the measurements of their waist and butt. Then, everyday during the challenge, players log onto wholelifechallenge.com and enter scores based on reaching nutrition and fitness goals that day. You can earn up to 11 points each day. Here is the points break down and how you earn the points….
5 points are available for nutrition everyday. The rules for nutrition are pretty intense and are based on the Paleo diet. Basically, no grains, no dairy, no alcohol, no sugar, no processed food, no soy, no fun. Just kidding on that last one. Kind of. BUT here is the good news about the nutrition portion, you can scale it and change it if you wish. When you sign up on the challenge website, you’ll have a chance to change any of the nutrition pieces. For instance, if you choose to include alcohol and you have a glass of wine one night, you still get all 5 of your points for that day. If you exclude alcohol and have a glass of wine one night, then you only get 4 points that day. Get it?
2 points are available for fitness everyday. All you have to do is 10 minutes of fitness. It’s that simple. It can be anything from walking to lifting weights to yoga. The only thing is you have be conscious of your efforts. You can’t just think back to the day before and be like “Oh, yeah, I think I walked the dog.”
2 points are available for stretching. Stretch for 10 minutes everyday. This can be broken up, a couple minutes here and there. The end.
1 point is available for taking a supplement everyday: fish oil, a multivitamin, etc.
1 point is available everyday for “Lifestyle.” Every 2 weeks this category will rotate and you will be told what it is on the website. So for 2 weeks, you may need to get 8 hrs. of sleep in order to get your point, and then the next 2 weeks you’ll have to drink a certain amount of water.
If you have a perfect day, you get all 11 points for that day.
FINALLY, for every 5 consecutive reflections you write on your page on the website, you win 2 bonus points. These stay in a little bank until you have a delicious piece of cake or forget to work out…and then your bonus points are there to help you out.
At the end of the challenge, participants do the same workout that they did at the beginning of the challenge and take the same measurements.
Wow. Did I loose you? Feel free to log onto wholelifechallenge.com because they are way better at explaining things than me.
Now you’re probably asking yourself why the heck I am doing this. I mean, I love food, don’t believe in diets, and feel good about my body!
For now, all I’ll say is that I’m just curious. I’ve always heard of these challenges and have really wanted to try one! Now, I finally belong to a CrossFit gym and feel like I’ll be given the support I need! I also have fitness goals that I’d love to reach through the challenge. But I promise to post more on the “whys” later!
If the Whole Life Challenge sounds like something you’d like to do, gather up some friends and family and join in! You can
